Review: The Last Dragon King by Leia Stone

This month’s read was definitely one that keeps you turning the pages!

A lot happens in 358 pages, and I can confidently say this is an action-packed story. Every chapter brings something new—whether it’s tension, magic, or drama—so it’s very easy to stay engaged and keep reading “just one more chapter.”

The premise is such a fun one: dragons, magic, and a bride-selection process with serious stakes. It honestly gave a bit of fantasy bachelorette energy (but with dragons and danger), which made it feel fresh and addictive. The magic system and world have a lot of potential, and I loved how the story pulls you into that atmosphere so quickly.

One of the highlights for me was the characters—especially Arwen. She’s strong, capable, and not your typical delicate fantasy heroine. I loved that she’s a hunter, that she fights, and that she holds her own in a world that’s constantly testing her. The secondary characters were also really enjoyable and added depth to the story in a way that made me want to keep exploring this world.

That said, it wasn’t a perfect read for me. At times, the writing slipped into a slightly younger tone than I expected, which occasionally pulled me out of the story. And while I enjoyed the romance, there were moments that felt a little repetitive or frustrating—especially with the push and pull between Arwen and Drae. Some of their choices (and inner monologues) had me thinking… okay, but we’ve already been through this.

Even with those weaker spots, I was still completely hooked. The plot is addictive, the pacing is fast, and the ending? Honestly beautiful.

Overall, this feels like a really strong start to a series with so much potential. It’s easy to read, immersive, and perfect if you’re in the mood for something dramatic, magical, and romance-filled.

Will I be continuing the series? Absolutely.
