November is going to be a slightly more ambitious month for the Hart Books HEA Book Club.
Instead of reading one Book of the Month, we’re taking on our first Duet Challenge and reading Rebecca Ross’s complete Letters of Enchantment duology: Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows.
Why two books?
Originally, Divine Rivals was going to be our November Book of the Month. But because it is the first half of Iris and Roman’s story, stopping at the end of book one would mean stopping before their journey is complete.
And considering we are the HEA Book Club, that simply wouldn’t do.
So this November:
Two books. One complete duet. One mission: find our happily ever after.
What is Divine Rivals about?
Divine Rivals introduces us to Iris Winnow, an eighteen-year-old aspiring journalist trying to hold her life together while her brother is away fighting in a war between ancient gods.
Iris works at the Oath Gazette, where she is competing for a permanent columnist position against Roman Kitt — wealthy, talented and particularly good at getting under her skin.
But alongside their professional rivalry, something much stranger is happening.
Iris writes private letters on an old typewriter and slips them beneath her wardrobe door, where they mysteriously disappear.
Somewhere else, someone is receiving them.
And eventually, that person begins writing back.
What follows is a fantasy romance built around words, vulnerability and the unexpected intimacy that can develop when you reveal parts of yourself you might never share face-to-face.
And that is all we’re going to say about the story, because we want our November discussions to remain spoiler-free for new readers.
What about Ruthless Vows?
Ruthless Vows is the second and final book in the Letters of Enchantment duology and continues the story begun in Divine Rivals.
We’re deliberately not sharing its synopsis here because even the premise of a sequel can reveal where the first book leaves its characters.
All you need to know is that we’ll be continuing directly into Ruthless Vows so that, by the end of our November reading challenge, we can discuss Iris and Roman’s complete journey.
The Letters of Enchantment books blend romance, fantasy and an early twentieth-century-inspired wartime atmosphere.
If you’re joining us this month, you can expect story elements and tropes including:
Rivals to lovers
Workplace rivals
Anonymous correspondence
Magical letters and enchanted typewriters
Secret identity
He falls first
Slow-burn emotional intimacy
Found family
Class differences
Historical fantasy
Romantasy
War and mythology
The series is particularly suited to readers who enjoy fantasy but prefer character-driven stories over complicated magic systems and extensive world-building.
At its heart, this is a story about words, trust and the experience of finding someone who sees the parts of you that other people overlook.
A slightly more ambitious Book Club month
Reading two books in one month is more than we usually ask of our HEA Book Club members, so our November Duet Challenge comes with one important rule:
Read at your own pace.
There is no requirement to finish both books before the end of November.
If you read both, wonderful.
If you only finish Divine Rivals, you’re still part of the club.
If you’re halfway through Ruthless Vows when December arrives, keep going.
And whether you choose paperback, hardcover, ebook or audiobook, it all counts.
The aim of HEA Book Club has never been to turn reading into homework. We’re here to discover romance books together, try different subgenres and have some great conversations along the way.
Join us this November
Throughout November, we’ll be talking about Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows across Hart Books and the HEA Book Club.
If you have already read the books, you’re very welcome to join us — but please help us protect the experience for first-time readers by keeping our early discussions spoiler-free.
Then, at the beginning of December, Sarah and Kat will sit down for our full spoiler-filled HEA Book Club wrap-up and discuss the complete duet.
We’ll talk about Iris and Roman, the romance, the magical letters, the fantasy world and whether reading the two books together delivered the conclusion we were hoping for.
So get both books ready, choose your favourite reading spot and prepare for rival journalists, magical typewriters, ancient gods and plenty of feelings.
